CAPE TOWN - ActionSA said that it was unacceptable that prisons had become taxpayer-funded holiday resorts.

This in reaction to video footage on social media showing an inmate bragging about living a so-called "soft life" behind bars.

It's understood, the inmate is a Zimbabwean national remanded at the Goodwood Correctional Centre on kidnapping charges.

In the video, the man said that if the people who put him in jail thought he would suffer, they were very wrong.

He then listed a number of benefits he gets in prison, like free food, electricity and toiletries.

ActionSA's Samkelo Mgobozi: "ActionSA will therefore be probing this matter with the Minister of Correctional Services, Dr Pieter Groenewald, to obtain an account of how prisoners at the Goodwood Correctional Centre came to possess and brazenly use mobile devices, and to understand the immediate steps the department will take to restore the integrity of our prison system."
