KZN govt estimates cost of damage from recent natural disasters at R2.3bn

DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has estimated the cost of the disasters that recently hit the province to over R2 billion.
This was revealed during a media briefing by authorities in Durban on Tuesday, following an oversight visit to the fire-gutted Kenville informal settlement.
Since last month, the province has been hit by 2 tornadoes, heavy rains, floods and recently the veld fires which have hit the province - claiming 13 lives.
“The recent storms and tornado that hit several district municipalities, with oThongathi areas in eThekwini being hardest hit. The estimated cost from the June 3rd storms is R2.3 billion," said Premier Thami Ntuli.
