CAPE TOWN - Parents of a baby girl who was inside a bakkie when it was hijacked in Khayelitsha over the weekend can breathe a sigh of relief.
Police have confirmed the four-month-old baby has been found and reunited with her family.
The little girl was reported missing on Saturday when the bakkie was taken.
The police's Frederick van Wyk said the baby was with her father, who was delivering chicken at his uncle's house with his white Isuzu bakkie.
"While they were busy in the back of the vehicle, five unknown males came to them and pointed the complainant with a firearm. The suspects then took the cellphones off the complainant and his uncle and got inside the vehicle and drove away.
“Inside the vehicle was the four-month-old baby of the complainant. He tried to get a brick to break a window, but they kept on going. The man then went immediately to the police station."
Van Wyk said the child was found abandoned in Makhaza and taken to her mother.
"The light delivery vehicle was recovered in Harare. The motive behind this incident is believed to be robbery.
