JOHANNESBURG - The family of a young domestic worker who was allegedly killed by her boss for an insurance payout is calling for justice to prevail.
The body of 21-year-old Busiswa Nxumalo was found at a dumping site in Lenasia, with her throat slit.
Her former employer, Sithembile Xulu, was arrested for her murder along with gardner, Simon Mogale.
The pair appeared at the Lenasia Magistrate's Court on Tuesday afternoon, where their bail application was postponed after their lawyer felt sick.
After finishing high school, Nxumalo found job opportunities lacking in her hometown of Nongoma, north of KwaZulu-Natal.
In 2021, Busiswa moved to Johannesburg to take up a job as a domestic worker for a family friend.
That friend was Xulu, who worked as a nurse for a private clinic.
It’s alleged that Xulu took out three life cover policies with three different insurers on Busiswa prior to killing her.
Busiswa’s uncle, Njabulo Nxulmalo, said they are hoping the case was resolved quickly.
"I am happy seeing her inside jail and not getting bail. We won't be happy if she is released because she is better off staying with the other animals in prison."
The bail application continues next Monday.
Njabulo Nxumalo, uncle to the late Busiswa Nxumalo, said the family is happy Xulu has been remanded in custody and is locked up with other “animals” like her.
