In her bail affidavit, Xulu denied killing her young domestic worker, Nxumalo.
On Tuesday, Xulu was due to appear in the witness dock for cross-examination.
However, her attorney was not present in court.
An anxious-looking Xulu told the court she did not know why her lawyer did not pitch up on Tuesday.
After a short adjournment, Magistrate Syfred Mati announced that the defence lawyer was sick.
The matter has been postponed to Monday for the continuation of the bail application.
