JOHANNESBURG - The bail application of a nurse accused of killing her domestic worker for insurance money has been postponed.

Sithembile Xulu and her co-accused, Simon Mogale, are charged with murder, three counts of insurance fraud and defeating the ends of justice.

It's alleged that in January 2022, the pair slit the throat of 21-year-old Busiswa Nxumalo and left her body at a dumping site.

Xulu and Mogale appeared at the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

In her bail affidavit, Xulu denied killing her young domestic worker, Nxumalo.

On Tuesday, Xulu was due to appear in the witness dock for cross-examination.

However, her attorney was not present in court.

An anxious-looking Xulu told the court she did not know why her lawyer did not pitch up on Tuesday.

After a short adjournment, Magistrate Syfred Mati announced that the defence lawyer was sick.

The matter has been postponed to Monday for the continuation of the bail application.
