CAPE TOWN - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has refused to be drawn into speculation that missing six-year-old Joshlin Smith's mother, Kelly Smith, is pregnant.
Smith appeared in the Vredenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, along with three co-accused.
The four accused face charges of kidnapping and human trafficking related to Joshlin's disappearance on 19 February.
The case against Smith, Jacquen Appolis, Stevano van Rhyn and Lourentia Lombaard was postponed on Monday as the State awaits forensic evidence.
Speculation as to whether Smith was carrying a baby again surfaced as she appeared to be pregnant.
However, NPA spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, refused to confirm whether Smith was with child.
"That does not form part of the NPA mandate. We don't know whether she is pregnant or not. No, we don't know. Also, her health issues are private and only her or her lawyers can confirm whether she's pregnant or not."
The four accused will be back in court again on 16 September, when the State will request that the matter be moved to the high court.
