Pregnant woman dies in Kenville informal settlement fire

JOHANNESBURG - A young pregnant woman has died after a fire broke out at the Kenville informal settlement in Durban, earlier on Sunday.
The eThekwini municipality said the fire happened around 3am and required a team of 30 firefighters to put it off.
The city said it was still investigating the cause of the fire.
Municipal spokesperson, Gugu Silana said the city was in the process of providing temporary relief efforts for displaced residents.
“The estimated number of gutted informal settlements is more than 100, and about 300 people have been displaced. Those who suffered minor injuries were treated by medical personnel on site. Sadly, one fatality was reported where a young pregnant woman succumbed to fire injuries.”
