DURBAN - While he miraculously survived a raging veld fire, a KwaZulu-Natal resident said that he had lost everything after his house was completely gutted.
Jingeni Gazu's home was among the first houses in the path of a runaway fire that spread rapidly on Sunday evening.
Several areas including King Cetshwayo, Amajuba and the Zululand Districts, were affected.
A province battered in recent months by severe weather, including tornadoes, and now veld fires.
The destruction is evident, as victims recall losing everything they own.
Among those displaced, is Jingeni Gazu.
"When I tried fighting the blaze nearby my house, I tripped and fell and that is when I realised, I am burning. My whole body was on fire but my legs and arm are the most affected."
Gazu lost his brother Muntukabongwa Gazu, who died trying to salvage some of their belongings.
While the family mourns, they’re pleading with authorities for assistance.
