CAPE TOWN - The Cape of Good Hope Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) says it's been inundated with calls about animals braving harsh weather that has been battering communities since the weekend.
“We have been inundated with calls since yesterday [Monday] afternoon regarding animals left without shelter and there is already flooding in some informal farming areas,” said the organisation's Belinda Abraham.
“Unfortunately, it is only going to get worse, as there is more rain and cold on the way and we are expecting these hazardous conditions to displace pets and farm animals who are going to be in desperate need of rescue."

Abraham is appealing to the public for help.
"We urgently need donations of blankets as well as dry dog and cat food to prepare for an expected influx of animals. Donations can be dropped off at PetShop Science stores in Fairbridge Mall, Durbanville, N1 City, Old Paarl, Plumstead, Protea Heights, Rondebosch and Tokai."
