The minister said the words “system offline” will be a thing of the past.
“I know we often make jokes about it. South Africans are very good at dealing with these kinds of things by making jokes about it. I want to be a minister of a system that’s online and not offline.
“I think there is low-hanging fruit here. The reality is that the internet infrastructure that is failing Home Affairs is something that can be fixed.”
Schreiber said he viewed this as an opportunity to make a visible impact.
“What we need to do is get the people with the skills around the table to help us solve this problem in a way that does not become a tender bonanza.”
