The South African Weather Service has further upgraded its initial warning from Yellow Level 4 to Yellow Level 6 for disruptive rain.

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town Disaster Management is calling on the public to prepare for severe weather conditions expected to hit various parts of the Western Cape over the weekend.
 
The South African Weather Service has further upgraded its initial warning from Yellow Level 4 to Yellow Level 6 for disruptive rain.
 
According to the metro, residents must ensure that drainage systems within their areas are cleared for easy flow of water.

Those who live in low-lying areas are advised to raise the floor level of their homes and dig trenches around their houses.
 
"The warnings are in place for Sunday, 7 July into Monday, 8 July 2024, and include a yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall on Sunday, as well as orange level 6 warnings for damaging coastal and interior winds, continuing into Monday," said the city's Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson, Charlotte Powell.
 
Bad weather in the past two days left 25 households in Tafelsig damaged by strong winds on Thursday, while 20 informal structures in Khayelitsha were flooded, leaving over 113 people affected.
