Number of mpox cases expected to rise in coming weeks, warns Health Dept
The Department of Health’s warning came as it intensified its contact tracing efforts for those who were in contact with mpox patients.

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Health has warned that the number of mpox cases in the country is expected to rise in the coming weeks.
This comes as the department intensifies its contact tracing efforts for those who were in contact with mpox patients.
Four more cases of mpox have been confirmed, bringing the total number to 20, with 3 deaths recorded.

To date, 10 cases were recorded in Gauteng, nine in KwaZulu-Natal, and one in Western Cape.
Health spokesperson Foster Mohale said 15 patients have recovered from the deadly disease.
"This is a testimony that mpox is a treatable disease if diagnosed early for effective treatment. Hence, people are urged to seek health care once they experience mpox-like symptoms or come into direct contact with someone who tested positive."
Monkeypox is transmitted through physical contact, causing painful rash symptoms similar to flu. Other notable Mpox symptoms include fatigue, muscle pains, headaches and blisters.
