JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni motorists with impounded vehicles have been given a deadline to collect them or face the prospect of having them disposed of.
The City of Ekurhuleni said cars impounded by metro police before 31 December 2023 have until next week Friday to be collected.
Officers have warned vehicles that are not not collected by the deadline will be disposed of.
Around 141 vehicles are kept at Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) pounds at any given time.
Some of the vehicles were impounded after involvement in accidents, while others contravened the National Road Traffic Act or city by-laws.
The city has urged owners who want their vehicles released to bring along the necessary documents and the due penalty fees.
It said in instances where an owner cannot afford to pay the pound fees, they have to apply to the City of Ekurhuleni chief of police for a fee reduction.
