JOHANNESBURG - City Power has expressed concern over the involvement of its employees in acts of theft and vandalism.

This follows the arrests of a City Power employee and contractor on Tuesday.

The power utility has warned its internal staff that the net is closing in on everyone who is involved in the destruction of property.

City Power said it would spare no resources to ensure that everyone who vandalises its property faces the full might of the law.

On Tuesday this week, a 41-year-old male, who was working in the security department, stole copper pipes from scrap metal dealers under the guise of returning them to City Power premises.

The next day, an employee of one of City Power’s service providers responsible for maintenance work was found in possession of copper.

The 30-year-old man was allegedly working in the Johannesburg CBD when he was caught trying to leave the work site with pieces of copper in his possession.

The pair join a group of about nine contracted guards linked with City Power who were nabbed over the past weekend during a joint intelligence operation.

The utility said it strongly condemns this conduct and has assured the public that those implicated will not be spared.
