Faith Mazibuko, who was previously tasked with looking after community safety, has now been appointed as the Social Development MEC.

Lesufi is ramping up his fight against crime, which has been a priority of his since he took up office back in 2022. This time around, he has placed the province’s crime-fighting efforts in his own hands.

In 2023, Lesufi employed thousands of young people to serve as crime prevention wardens.

He said centralising the battle against crime was likely to deliver much-needed reprieve for residents in the province.

“The fight against crime is going to the centre of this government. We are migrating this responsibility to the Office of the Premier so that we lead and champion the fight against crime, corruption, and lawlessness. We can't surrender our province to criminals.”
