The SABC has cancelled Muvhango on SABC2 – the channel's most-watched show – after 27 years.
The SABC has effectively cancelled 'Muvhango', created by Duma Ndlovu and produced by Word of Mouth Pictures – the channel's most-watched show – after 27 years.
The Venda soapie ran out of produced episodes, leaving the channel and fans with a gap in the 9 pm timeslot on SABC 2.
According to reports, Muvhango has completely shut down, with no contract extension for further episodes.
The SABC gave viewers no warning that Tuesday (2 July) night's 'Muvhango' episode – episode 130 of the 25th season – would be the last.
The SABC will replace the 'Muvhango' timeslot with old rebroadcasts from 9 pm, starting from the first episode of season one.
The long-running show started in April 1997 and was the South African public broadcaster's first Tshivenda language drama.
