CAPE TOWN - Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has assured that the Government of National Unity (GNU) Cabinet won't get distracted by ideological issues and politicking.
She said that ideology was a matter for parties to grapple with and not President Cyril Ramaphosa’s newly sworn-in Cabinet.
Ntshavheni said that the government would also be implementing current policy as ministers from different parties officially take up their posts.
Minister Ntshavheni used the first media briefing of the seventh administration to outline the GNU's immediate policy plans and priorities.
She said that government priorities were still based on the Medium-Term Strategic Framework (MTSF), even under the Government of National Unity.
Ntshavheni added that the Forum of Directors-General would also be analysing the various party manifestos before presenting recommendations to Cabinet.
But not much attention would be paid to ideology.
"The other issues, if they are political or ideology issues, those matters are not matters of Cabinet, they’re matters of the political parties. They will have to go and find each other."
Ntshavheni said that next week’s Cabinet lekgotla would be followed by the adoption of the programme of action for the seventh administration, which would be announced by the president at the opening of Parliament on 18 July.
