JOHANNESBURG - Following numerous delays to the appointment of a new provincial government, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has put together a 10-member Cabinet under the banner of a government of provincial unity.
Former Economic Development MEC Tasneem Motara has been moved to lead the human settlements portfolio, while Faith Mazibuko has been entrusted to occupy the social development position.
Lesufi, however, moved the fight against crime to his office, dissolving the community safety portfolio.
"We felt that the department of environment must be a stand-alone department so that we can clean Gauteng. Our province is dirty, our cities are dirty," the Premier said.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA), Rise Mzansi and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) are also represented in Lesufi's Cabinet.
"It gives me great pleasure to invite Miss Vuyiswa Ramokgopa from Rise Mzansi to join the seventh administration as the MEC responsible for agriculture and rural development."
