JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng are back at the negotiating table on Tuesday, hoping to reach a consensus on the composition of Premier Panyaza Lesufi's executive.
On Monday night, Lesufi postponed his cabinet announcement for the second time, following another deadlock in power-sharing talks.
The two parties have not seen eye-to-eye on the division of power, leading to a back-and-forth between their provincial structures.
DA provincial chairperson, Solly Msimanga said the ANC is seemingly driven by greed.
“We are supposedly meeting. In fact, I'm standing outside the venue and I’m seeing some of them have started arriving. We don’t just want positions. We want to make sure that this government works and there’s longevity about it.
“We don’t want a situation where in two months’ time there are motions of no confidence and reports and budgets that cannot pass. This is why we said we will be part of this engagement and we were engaging in good faith.”
