JOHANNESBURG - It has emerged that the African National Congress (ANC) had proposed that the Gauteng executive Cabinet should only comprise the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The DA made the revelation during a media briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening on the outcomes of its meeting with the ANC.
The two parties' power-sharing talks on the makeup of Premier Panyaza Lesufi's executive collapsed following their failure to find common ground.
Speaking at the media briefing, DA federal council chairperson, Helen Zille, alleged that the ANC wanted to keep seven MEC positions for itself while offering the remaining three to the DA.
"The ANC never intended, as we found out today, to bring in any other smaller parties. They were using that as a smokescreen to hide from us that they wanted seven and to give us three. Now really, we cannot have the wool pulled over our eyes in that way. And that is, for us, an extreme bad faith."
Zille further adds the ANC agreed to keep six MEC positions, three to the DA and one to the IFP.
