Ramaphosa must ensure internal Cabinet squabbles don't derail new govt's work - BBF

JOHANNESBURG - The Black Business Federation (BBF) has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to keep his new Cabinet on a tight leash amid fears that internal squabbles could derail the work of the new government.

It’s the first time since 1999 that competing political parties have had to band together to form a Government of National Unity (GNU).

While parties have vowed to set their political differences aside, the federation’s CEO, Ntsikelelo Dlulane, said Ramaphosa must avert a crisis at all costs.

“It is further requested by the BBF that The Presidency exercises proper oversight to make sure that should this issue of conflict arise, it is taken care of and curbed before it causes challenges within the seventh administration.”

Dlulane said he hopes the economic cluster will prioritise policy interventions to help black-owned businesses grow.

“We are encouraged by the announcement that has just been made by the president, where appointments on the economic cluster are that of individuals whom we trust as progressive as well as with capacity to deal with the task assigned to them.”
