DURBAN - The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) official accused of illegally transporting ballot boxes during the recent elections in KwaZulu-Natal will return to court on Tuesday morning.
Musawenkosi Mnikathi was the area manager for the IEC in the Imbali township, Pietermaritzburg, during voting.
He is accused of contravening the Electoral Act.
Last week, the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court pressed criminal charges against Mnikathi.
The State is alleging that he illegally transported four ballot boxes in his personal vehicle without any security supervision.
Mnikathi had previously filed an application to the magistrate, wanting his matter to be heard by the Electoral Court.
However, the State argued that he has a case to answer to in the magistrates court, as the alleged crime was committed within its jurisdiction.
