CAPE TOWN - Two men linked to a mass killing in Khayelitsha last month are expected to apply for bail at the local magistrates court on Tuesday.

Athule Mtsha and Sithisa Masiko are accused of killing three children aged between four and 12 years old, as well as a 30-year-old man at a barbershop in Site C.

Seven other people, including a five-year-old child, were seriously injured and four others escaped unscathed.

The pair is facing four counts of murder, 11 counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of illegal firearms amongst other charges.

More charges are likely to be added when the men appear before the magistrate in Khayelitsha on Tuesday.

The State is opposing bail in the matter.

One of the accused’s lawyers plans to present an alibi defence.

He previously told the court there might be video footage placing his client further away from the crime scene at the time of the shooting.
