JOHANNESBURG - Newly appointed Cooperative Governance minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, said that after more than two decades as a councillor, he understands what it takes to improve local government.
Hlabisa, who is the leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday as part of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
He detailed his plans for the department.
"Competent staff should be a key thing that all municipalities must address as a matter of priority if you want to have effective and efficient government. The question of financial viability of our municipalities versus corruption that has become a cancer, we need to confront these challenges."
