JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa’s new Cabinet has ministers belonging to six former opposition parties. 

 

The Democratic Alliance leads the pack with six ministerial posts and six deputy ministers. 

 

Last night, Ramaphosa announced 75 ministers and deputy ministers across the political divide which now make up the African National Congress’ government of national unity.

 

After 15 years as Minister of Basic Education - Angie Motshekga has made way for the DA’s chief whip - Siviwe Gwarube.

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Velenkosini Hlabisa is the new minister of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs. 

 

Long-standing members of Parliament Mkhuleko Hlengwa and Narend Singh - the Deputy Minister of Transport and Environment respectively - round off the IFP’s representation in the national executive. 

 

Patriotic Alliance leader - Gayton McKenzie will have to settle for a role as Sports, Arts and Culture Minister as his coveted post of Home Affairs Minister has gone to the DA’s Leon Schreiber. 

 

Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald takes over as Correctional Services Minister, while the Good Party president - Patricia de Lille returns for a second consecutive stint as the Minister of Tourism.
