Two people die in Cape Town informal settlement fire
The blaze at the Nomzamo informal settlement destroyed five informal structures and left at least seven people displaced.

CAPE TOWN - Two people have died after a fire swept through an informal settlement in Nomzamo in Strand, Cape Town.
Officials from the City of Cape Town's fire and rescue service said they were notified of the blaze just before 2 am on Saturday.

Spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said firefighters were sent to the scene immediately.
"Several firefighting crews were dispatched to the scene and firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the blaze by 3 o'clock," he said.
"The blaze destroyed five informal structures and left seven people displaced."
Carelse said the cause of the blaze was yet unknown.
"Sadly, the bodies of the two men were found among the debris and were certified deceased by medical personnel. While the cause of the fire is yet to be identified, the South African Police Service is investigating the matter. "
