JOHANNESBURG - With the petrol price predicted to decrease in July, Johannesburg residents will face an increase in electricity prices.

This comes after City Power announced that it will implement new tariff increases from next week.

It said the new increase of 12.7% was determined by several key factors affecting its operations and customers.

The power utility's adjustment followed intense consultations with residents of the City of Johannesburg and other stakeholders.

"Our tariff application to NERSA [National Energy Regulator of South Africa] was in line with the consideration of the current economic conditions, where most of our residents are affected by the rising costs of living, and we considered our customers' best interest to cushion them while ensuring sustainable service delivery continues," said spokesperson Issac Mangena.
