CAPE TOWN - Derick Kalmeyer, also known as "Slang", has been slammed with 57 years in prison for the brutal murders of three-year-old Faith Adams and her one-year-old brother, Conroy.

The Western Cape High Court found Kalmeyer guilty of murdering the siblings in their Houtkapper Street home in Vredenburg in May 2019.

Police spokesperson, Frederick van Wyk, said Kalmeyer was sentenced to two life terms of 25 years each for the murders, plus five years for assault and another two years for resisting arrest.

"On the morning of the horrifying murders, Kalmeyer had an argument with the children’s mother. He turned his anger towards the children and stabbed Faith 19 times. She died on the scene due to injuries sustained."

Van Wyk said Conroy died in hospital after he was hit over the head with a beer bottle, stabbed 14 times and was flung through a window.

"Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Mzamo Mbovane, for his sterling investigation and the National Prosecuting Authority for ensuring that Kalmeyer received the maximum sentence for his murderous acts."
