DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal police say extra boots deployed on the ground will continue to work in the province indefinitely.

Over 1,500 extra officers were deployed in May to maintain public order before, during, and after the general elections.

This was also due to threats  regarding the recent polls.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said while teams had not identified any threats of violence, they were on alert for any chaos.

"For now, extra deployments continue until further notice. There are no threats identified, but, as our mandate dictates, we remain on high alert to prevent any form of criminality."
