CAPE TOWN - Eskom has refuted claims that all its community centres in Cape Town will be shut down.

In a statement, the power utility confirmed that it would be closing only two traditional walk-in centres in Bellville and Khayelitsha - which are set to close at the end of June. These offices will be repurposed.

Eskom also clarified that its customer service hubs in communities would not be affected, adding that pop-up customer service office facilities would be made available.

Eskom said the pop-up customer service hubs aim to bring services closer to the customers, who will no longer travel to Bellville and Khayelitsha to report their issues.

The utility's technical depots will also remain open in the communities they exist in.

The power utility also said that teams were working on Eskom's online capabilities to send updates via its digital platforms.
