TSHWANE - A meeting is under way between the family of a psychiatric patient who died in a fire at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Tshwane and the hospital's management.
On Tuesday, the hospital's psychiatric ward went up in flames, killing the woman and forcing staff to evacuate other patients.
The Gauteng Department of Health said the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, setting in motion a police investigation.
Although one ward is compromised, it’s business as usual at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital.
The death of one of the patients at the facility on Tuesday sent waves across the community. However, this has not deterred many from seeking medical treatment.
Just three months at the helm of the hospital, CEO Dr Fhatuwani Mbara faces a difficult task.
Mbara and the deceased patient's family are in talks regarding the tragedy, with a media briefing expected later on Wednesday.
