Section 29 of the South African Constitution states that everyone has the right to basic education.
The reality is that the country's education system leaves much to be desired - especially if you're from a low-income area.
Calling Academy based in Stellenbosch is aiming to change that narrative.
Located in a serene, rural setting, the Academy boasts modern classrooms, sports facilities, and a commitment to excellence.
Founded in 2018 by Werner Cloete and Dr Phillip Geldenhuys, this all-boys high school aims to bridge the education gap by providing quality education to disadvantaged learners.
For the Academy, it's not just about achieving great marks, but about changing lives.
"We don't just want to be churning out results if it's not really changing lives and changing communities."
- Werner Cloete, Calling Academy CEO
"We've realised that these kids, who live in low-income areas, they have got such ingenuity, such passion, their eyes are sparkling. They've got a desire to lead meaningful lives and to impact their communities as well."
- Werner Cloete, Calling Academy CEO
"We've said let's try to view the kids, who live in these low-income areas, as the solution to the challenges that these low-income areas face."
