CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said that everyone involved in the murder of city official, Wendy Kloppers, must face the full might of the law.

Kloppers, who worked for the city’s environmental affairs department, was gunned down in Delft in February last year in an apparent case of mistaken identity.

The 48-year-old was visiting the Delft Symphony Way housing project site to conduct an inspection when she was allegedly mistaken for a woman who won the construction contract.

The city believes those responsible for her death are part of the construction mafia.

Mayco member for human settlements, Carl Pophaim, has welcomed the arrest of a suspect in Kloppers' murder.

"This case is absolutely paramount to bring justice for Wendy, and send a strong message that as a Cape Town community and a city administration, we will stand together to stop our sector in human settlements from being captured."

Pophaim said the Symphony Way project was suspended following Kloppers' murder, but work at the site would resume soon.
