Crowdfunding platform BackaBuddy abandons Renaldo Gouws' R50k campaign amid racism row
The South African Human Rights Commission is taking Gouws to the Equality Court – with hopes he’ll be found guilty of hate speech.

JOHANNESBURG - Online crowdfunding website - BackaBuddy - has taken down the funding campaign that raised over R50 000 in support of controversial Democratic Alliance (DA) member of Parliament (MP) Renaldo Gouws.
Gouws was suspended by his party last week – after a 2009 video emerged of the MP uttering racist slurs.
Scores of his supporters insists he is being discriminated against.

The South African Human Rights Commission is taking Gouws to the Equality Court – with hopes he’ll be found guilty of hate speech.
In a media statement, BackaBuddy announced its decision to remove Gouws’ campaign following vetting processes.
The website says the DA MP’s fundraising campaign doesn’t meet the required terms and condition to host on its platform.
Meanwhile, Gouws will soon be subjected to the DA’s internal disciplinary hearing.
