Rand Water urges residents not to stockpile water during infrastructure maintenance project

JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water has urged residents not to stockpile water during the course of its extensive infrastructure maintenance project.
The utility kicked off its project on Saturday and it is expected to take a total of 37 days to improve the efficiency of its infrastructure.
Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said residents could expect low pressure to no supply.
"The reason we’re saying no supply, it’s two-fold. It’s people living in high-lying areas because remember, the low-lying areas, they'll get water first then the high-lying areas will come later.
"The other problem will be if we panic and we stockpile water, reservoirs will run empty. That means people will not have water."
Maroo said while they encouraged residents to take steps to ensure they’re prepared, they’re also urging them not to go overboard.
"We’re saying we’re still going to be pumping during the process and we have engaged municipalities to say should there be challenges, they’ll be able to have roaming tankers, and they’ll be able to communicate with residents."
