CAPE TOWN - Parkwood and Grassy Park residents have expressed concerns about people who are unable to travel to water points during the water shutdown affecting more than 30 areas in the Cape Flats.

The City of Cape Town is busy with a three-day water supply maintenance project that started at midnight on Sunday, leaving thousands of residents without water.

Parkwood pensioners, Ellen and Arthur Classen said they offered a neighbour a lift to the water point in Grassy Park on Tuesday because he didn't have transport.

"On our way, we picked up a guy that we know that doesn't have transport because that's what they say we must give lifts to people and see where we can help."

Classen said elderly people and those without transport are struggling to get to the water tankers supplied by the city.

"Transport for the people that don't have a car who must use a taxi to get to the water point. It's very difficult for those people."

Others in the queue said they were happy the city informed residents and gave them enough time to prepare for the water shutdown.
