CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is demanding a review of all tenders awarded since the elections in departments where it will have ministerial control under a Government of National Unity (GNU) agreement.
It's also insisting that the contracts of directors general in these departments be terminated in favour of DA-approved appointments.
These demands are contained in an extensive letter to African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, as the DA looks to consolidate its influence in key department across the state.

While Government of National Unity (GNU) negotiations have until now focused on ministerial and deputy positions, the DA is looking for a firm grip on administration too, starting with the termination of the five-year contracts of DGs in departments overseen by its ministers.
In a letter to the ANC, DA federal chairperson, Helen Zille, argues the incumbents may not be amenable to taking direction from DA ministers, especially given the ANC's cadre deployment policy.
The DA also wants tenders awarded over the last month in DA-led departments to be reviewed.
Lastly, the DA is recommending a so-called technical "clearing house" be established with a representative from each participating party to resolve policy differences.
Where sufficient consensus can't be reached, the DA suggests these be resolved by the president and the DA leader.
