ActionSA, which has six seats in the National Assembly, plans to be an effective opposition party.
At least 10 out of the 18 parties represented in Parliament are signatories of the ANC’s co-governing agreement.
Unlike some of its former moonshot pact partners, ActionSA has followed through the charter’s declaration of not working with the ANC.
In a media statement released on Tuesday, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba praised the ANC for accepting the election result after losing its national majority for the first time.
Mashaba noted the good principles in the statement of intent that underpins the GNU.
However, Mashaba fears the GNU may result in a bloated Cabinet without an effective opposition in Parliament.
The party has not ruled out working with the GNU in future, saying it support can be sought on an issue-by-issue basis.
