JOHANNESBURG - While the country remains on tenterhooks for President Cyril Ramaphosa's Cabinet announcement, a similar waiting game is playing out in Gauteng.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi postponed the announcement of his executive, which was expected on Sunday.

Lesufi spent Sunday putting out fires on social media platform X, where there has been much speculation about the delay in appointing his executive.

He has disputed reports that Ramaphosa had instructed him to include members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in his Cabinet.

Lesufi said that the hold-up was because negotiators had requested more time, adding that these were not usual negotiations but they were extremely complicated and difficult.

In the recent general elections, the African National Congress (ANC) failed to secure an outright majority in Gauteng, requiring the buy-in from other parties to form a government.

Similar to the president's Cabinet announcement, there is still no indication when Lesufi will make the appointments to his executive.
