EC Transport Dept in talks with firefighters following Mthatha Airport protest
On Saturday, flights headed to the Mthatha Airport had to be diverted to the King Phalo Airport in East London due to safety concerns, after firefighters stationed at the airport downed tools.

JOHANNESBURG - The Eastern Cape Transport Department is in talks with protesting firefighters, following flight interruptions at the Mthatha Airport at the weekend.
On Saturday, flights headed to the Mthatha Airport had to be diverted to the King Phalo Airport in East London due to safety concerns, after firefighters stationed at the airport downed tools.

The provincial Transport Department said that firefighters must be on standby to facilitate landing.
Spokesperson Unathi Binqose: "We are in constant contact with the protesting workers to find a lasting solution to any issues they may have."
