CAPE TOWN - Cape Town residents facing three days without water have been urged to use water sparingly.
The City of Cape Town has scheduled to cut off water supply in 22 areas from Monday.
The city said it would be embarking on an important water infrastructure maintenance on the Cape Flats, which will have benefits for the communities.
The metro is calling on people that will be affected by its 72-hour water outage to be mindful of others and share the water that will be distributed by water tankers equally.
The city said that its water and sanitation team would be replacing five large valves that were key to the Cape Flats water network.
According to the city's MMC for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, 22 areas in the southern suburbs and the Cape Flats can expect their taps to be dry from midnight.
"You are encouraged to use grey water from washing to flushing toilets, spot cleaning and when it comes to clothes, only when necessary. Alternative water coming from boreholes and wheel points should not be used for drinking."
The municipality added that key points for water tankers would be communicated through its social media platforms or ward councillors.
The City’s #WaterAndSanitation Directorate will undertake a 72-hour operation which will begin on Monday, 24 June, (00:00) until Wednesday, 26 June (24:00) to do essential maintenance to its water supply network on the Cape Flats.
