Joburg residents to brave dry taps as Rand Water's 37-day maintenance begins on Saturday

JOHANNESBURG - As Rand Water's 37-day extensive maintenance project kicks off on Saturday, Johannesburg residents are encouraged to stock up on water before their taps run completely dry.
The City of Johannesburg warned this week that the project will affect major water systems across Gauteng at various levels over different periods.

This will result in a combination of low water pressure in various suburbs across the city starting from Saturday, leading to no water from next week and throughout the maintenance period.
The city said several water trucks and JoJo tanks would be stationed in specified areas to assist residents.
Johannesburg residents are urged to store water ahead of a month-long maintenance project undertaken by Rand Water.
Until 29 July, Johannesburg residents can expect low water pressure due to extensive maintenance on infrastructure.
The acting general operations manager at Johannesburg Water, Logan Munsamy, stressed that this was not a shutdown.
“A total of 85 water trucks will be deployed to the various areas. They will be moved within the month to various regions as and when required, so we have the flexibility of moving these water tankers as and when required to most needed spots.”
He said 250 stationary JoJo tanks would be set up at certain focus areas.
The maintenance project will impact several reservoirs across the City of Johannesburg.
