The party is one of those who could not meet their outright majority target due to the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party dominating in KwaZulu-Natal in the recent general polls.
However, its KwaZulu-Natal deputy chairperson, Ntandoyenkosi Shabalala, said the by-election results had given them confidence.
"We appreciate the work the people of KwaZulu-Natal have done in support of the IFP because we were shocked by the results that we’ve received in the national and provincial elections, but they have shown us that they are still trusting the IFP."
