JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) denied claims that it changed its tune about holding President Cyril Ramaphosa accountable over the Phala Phala controversy.
The party previously spearheaded calls for the president to be sacked for allegedly failing to disclose the theft of foreign currency at his Bela Bela property in 2020.

However, since joining the African National Congress (ANC) in the Government of National Unity (GNU), there are questions about the DA’s ability to bring other GNU partners to task.
DA parliamentary chief whip Siviwe Gwarube said the GNU agreement didn’t exclude parties from accountability.
"The ANC voted that process down and so, as we speak, it is complete because it has not been revived and it can only be revived upon the revelation of new information.
"We’ve been clear that we will not be part of covering up a crime. If new information arises on this matter that points to the breaking of the law, then we will have to exercise what is expected of us."
