JOHANNESBURG - City Power said it does not agree with a Johannesburg High Court ruling ordering it to pay over a R1 billion owed to Eskom.

The court also ordered Johannesburg’s power utility and the metro to pay interest to Eskom for defaulting on its account.

Eskom, however, still wants City Power to repay its full debt of R3.4 billion.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said, “We have noted the judgment in the case between Eskom and City Power that was issued yesterday [Thursday].

“We obviously do not agree with it, and we reserve the right to appeal such judgement. We have briefed our attorneys, and we will issue a statement later in the day on our next course of action.”
