MK Party clinches first ward in KZN by-elections
The MK Party has claimed a ward in the Umzumbe Local Municipality, on the KZN South Coast, where former African National Congress (ANC) Speaker Sbonelo Maphumulo contested for the MK Party.

JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has won its first ward, in Kwazulu-Natal
(KZN), following by-elections held at seven municipalities in the province.
The party has claimed a ward in the Umzumbe Local Municipality, on the KZN South Coast, where former African National Congress (ANC) Speaker Sbonelo Maphumulo contested for the MK Party.
Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela said, "What we are seeing is a reflection of the people’s will. They are tired lethargic approach of the government administration from the IFP [Inkatha Freedom Party and ANC in KZN."
He said the victory was a positive sign for the party.
"So this historic remember this is the first by-election that we are winning and the installing our ward councillor, this is just but a showing what will happen in the 2026 local municipalities polls."
