JOHANNESBURG - Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana says he hasn’t received a phone call from President Cyril Ramaphosa about a possible re-appointment to Cabinet.
A Cabinet reshuffle is imminent as Ramaphosa builds a new executive team to help him lead the new administration.
It’s expected to be a mixed bag this time around as Ramamphosa tries to juggle policy priorities and demands from political parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Moreover, the inauguration of Ramaphosa has officially ushered in a new administration, expected to come with a new executive.
But there’s high speculation and anticipation about what trade-offs had to be made to appease partners in the GNU.
Ramaphosa is tipped to include ministers or deputy ministers from the Democratic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party, National Freedom Party, Patriotic Alliance and the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania.
Twenty-eight positions are up for grabs for ministers, while there are more than 30 vacancies for deputy minister positions.
Godongwana said he’s not privy to talks about portfolio deployments.
“There are no such discussions in the African National Congress, that is the president’s prerogative.”
It’s unclear when the announcement will be made.
