GBV activist slams justice system after cop who killed his 3 children granted parole

CAPE TOWN - A gender-based violence (GBV) activist has slammed the justice system after a killer cop who murdered three of his children was granted parole on Wednesday.
Marius van der Westhuizen, a former Claremont South African Police Service (SAPS) officer who is serving a 24-year sentence for murdering three of his children 17 years ago, will soon be a free man.

The parole board granted Van der Westhuizen parole from 31 July until September 2034, when his sentence ends.
Non-profit organisation (NPO) executive director, Bronwyn Moore, said justice had not been served.
"If this is how a DCS [Department of Correctional Services] parole board reaches a considered decision, then I really fear for all women and children who are victims of violence because this is not justice in any form. This is really the silencing of victims, living or dead, and I'm really ashamed of our system."
