JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane says it plans to make significant movement in establishing two power stations by next year.

The city is hosting a two-day summit to address the energy insecurity caused by load shedding.

Tshwane plans to raise 1,000 megawatts of power to lessen reliance on Eskom.

Mayor Cilliers Brink said they were looking to partner with independent power producers (IPPs).

"As a city, we don’t have the capital, the expertise to run those power stations. We don’t want to be in the business of energy generation ourselves but we are looking to work with IPPs who are capable of turning those power stations into a source of energy. There is also another aspect of procuring directly from IPPs."
