JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) says the slow pace in resolving youth unemployment has reached what it calls disaster status.
More than 45% of young people who fall within working age in South Africa are jobless.
This staggering figure has continued to worsen over the past few quarters.
While the country observes Youth Month, the ANCYL said more must be done to resolve the crisis.
The structure’s president Collen Malatji made the call while speaking during a media briefing at Luthuli House, in Joburg, on Wednesday.
“We urgently call for the creation of 2.5 million job opportunities through the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme, to promote employment equity for black people, women and people with disabilities.”
